RV Electrical Repair — Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my RV have no power at all?

A total loss of power is usually traced back to one side of your electrical system. On the 120V side, the culprit is often a faulty automatic transfer switch, a damaged shore power cord, or a tripped breaker in the breaker box. On the battery side, it's often a dead or failing battery, a bad converter, or an inverter issue — though since the inverter depends on the battery to run, a bad battery can look exactly like a failed inverter even when the inverter itself is fine. On RVs with a CAN-BUS control system, a glitch in that system can also mimic a total power loss even when the battery and wiring are fine. Our technicians work through each of these systematically to find the actual source instead of guessing.

How much does RV electrical repair cost?

Cost depends on the specific issue — a fuse or connection repair is typically far less expensive than a converter or full wiring replacement. We diagnose first and give you a clear price before any work begins.

What's the difference between my RV's 12V and 120V systems?

Your RV actually runs on two separate electrical systems. The 12V system draws from your house battery and powers lower-draw items like interior lights, water pumps, slide-outs, and control panels — it works whether or not you're plugged in. The 120V system is standard household-style power, supplied through shore power, a generator, or an inverter, and it runs larger appliances like the air conditioner, microwave, and outlets. A problem in one system doesn't necessarily mean the other is affected, which is why losing power to your outlets but not your lights (or vice versa) is a normal diagnostic clue rather than a mystery. Our technicians test both systems independently to pinpoint exactly where the fault is.
